How to Read Search Trends

Google Trends reports relative search interest, rather than absolute search volume. Its results depend on the selected region, time window, search category, and whether the query is a search term or a Google Trends topic. A ranking created with different settings may produce a different result.

  • Worldwide: Compare interest across all available regions using the same date range.
  • South Korea: Use South Korea as the region and keep the comparison period consistent.
  • United States: Set the region to the United States and use the same terms or topics where possible.
  • Year-to-date: Specify the exact dates covered, such as January 1 through the last verified update date.

Where to Verify the Rankings

Before presenting a list as a verified ranking, check the terms directly in Google Trends. Record the comparison terms or topics, region, date range, search type, and date checked. Since Trends data is normalized, avoid describing its index as exact total searches.

Update Policy and Data Notes

KWaveHub adds new reports when a clear date range, market, search terms or topics, and source can be stated. Rankings based on editorial comparisons or third-party posts are labeled accordingly; they are not presented as official Google rankings unless the underlying Google Trends settings and data have been checked. For background, see the Google Trends FAQ. This hub links to each report so readers can explore the full ranking and related K-pop coverage.

Editorial policy: KWaveHub distinguishes verified search data from third-party rankings and illustrative benchmarks. A list should only be described as an official or verified Google Trends ranking when its methodology and underlying data have been checked.
